Not exactly.

Are you taking the right supplement?

Curcuma longa, is a plant from the ginger family. When the roots are dried, they are made into a powder, which we know as turmeric. A percentage of that powder is curcumin.

Curcumin is the main source of the health benefits we hear so much about and has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years.

Scientists have studied the curium longa plant for its medicinal uses. It has been proven to display antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Curcumin reduces
chronic inflammation associated with arthritis, skin condition like eczema, and even every day back pain.

The antioxidant qualities are good for boosting your immune system to prevent everything from certain diseases to the flu.

The plant has also been used to improve cholesterol, cardiovascular health, cognitive health, weight management, and has been shown to be useful in the treatment of diabetes.

Finally, curcumin may be helpful in treating IBD and IBS by reducing the severity of the symptoms.

So is it better to take turmeric or curcumin?

Most studies show curcumin has more health benefits than turmeric, however, taking them together may yield the best results.

In order for turmeric to be absorbed by the body, you’ll want to look for a supplement that also includes black pepper, which increases absorption by up to 20 times more. There are certain conditions that should not take curcumin, so be sure to check with your doctor before taking any supplements.
